Re: Iorio story

If Traore gets a bit beefed up and works at it, he might be able to be a reasonable force inside on defense, intimidating shots and pulling down 5-6 boards as part of the inside group so badly needed for so long. Just needs to stay out of foul trouble and play smarter. Iorio can be an offensive forc...

Re: 2023 MBB Recruiting

Wish I had kept that edition. It was printed in his senior year as an insert and tribute. Most people would not believe it happened. I think it might have been in his freshman year.

Re: 2023 MBB Recruiting

If you can get hold of the Sports Illustrated issue that featured Murphy's debut vs. LIU, you can see his form perfectly. He would get about 24 inches or more off the ground, shoulders squared to the hoop and a perfect off-the-fingertips release. His most amazing jumper was when he'd run to the deep...

Re: 2023 MBB Recruiting

Watching the short video, it looks like he fires his jumper pretty low. He can get away with this in HS but at D1, it won't work. He'll have to alter that release, IMO. That said, he must be talented to be rated a top player in the big city.

Re: RIP Bill Russell

LE- The NBA Game of the Week on ABC often featured the Celts, as there were only a handful of teams in the early-mid-60s. Russell, the Joneses, Hondo, Bailey Howell, Don Nelson, Larry Sigfried, Satch Sanders, John Thompson. Russell was never embarrassed by an opponent. 20 boards per game in college....

Re: RIP Bill Russell

No one was ever more focused. Hard work, integrity, courage, intelligence, eloquence.... not often found in one person. NCAA, Olympic and most notably NBA titles a record 11 times. 21-0 in games that were either elimination or championship level.

Re: Canisius transfer-idiotcy examplified

At 6'8" and 255, I suppose he feared for his life while going through the food line in the cafeteria. Pathetic. And it could happen anywhere. Guns are a way of life in his community. Very evident in 2022 when the main cause of death of young African American males is murder, by their peers.

jhart- Were you familiar with a guy named Vinnie Colluro at SJU? He is a bit older but worked in admissions and knew Louie and some of the players back in the early and mid-60s: Cleuss, Billy Shafer, Paultz.

Re: "ow This NCAA Ref Knows We Are Doomed As A Society

As a former high school hoop official in the Albany area, I can attest to the declining behavior of fans, players and coaches. Way back in the 80's, I wrote an article for the I.A.A.B.O. newsletter entitled "Bench Decorum". It was a problem back then and nothing has improved over the decad...

Re: Great Frank Layden Piece

They hustled through the Niagara era quickly, but did show a photo with Frank, Calvin and Al Williams, Murphy's successor at point guard. Though Williams couldn't shoot well, he was a good playmaker. Great tribute to the man who started at Seton Hall HS on LI.
