Re: Niagara Takes Minnesota To The Brink

Minnesota’s athletic department is trying to enhance the experience at Mariucci and attract more fans by cutting ticket prices in most areas and making beer and wine available throughout the venue. Those moves and others didn’t lead to a huge crowd — the arena was about 40% full Friday — and the Go...

Re: The WCHA As We Now Know It Could Be Dead

It appears that both Anchorage and Fairbanks will field teams this year as the Alaska Board of Regents has said all athletic seasons will go on as scheduled. It also appears that the teams may be consolidated into one team next year, if they field a team. The Board is looking at consolidating all th...

Re: New 3 point system in AHC this year, 2nd OT will be 3 on

This is what the WCHA and NCHC do. It really means you can make up some ground in the standings fast or bury teams in a hurry with the three points!

Re: The WCHA As We Now Know It Could Be Dead

le, the 7 schools have been very tight lipped about this, but the common opinion on all of this is the cost to go there. Even if the UAs are subisdizing the cost of going there, it is still money out of the budget at a time when budgets are tight. From the way I understand it, the three UAs pay you ...

Re: The WCHA As We Now Know It Could Be Dead

Looks like there is a proposal by the Alaskan Legislature to reinstate $110 million to the University in exchange for a dividend check of $1600 (I think right now it is set for $600). People following it aren't sure which way the governor will go as he wants at least $3000 per person for dividend ch...

Re: The WCHA As We Now Know It Could Be Dead

The Alaska Board of Regents just held their intermediate meeting, voted 10-1 to start Financial Exigency process. It is hard to imagine that athletics will survive this year when a large number of academic programs and tenured professors are going to get the axe......

Re: The WCHA As We Now Know It Could Be Dead

Millsy - What schools do you think the "Renegade 7" will pursue when they form a new league. ROMO and Mercyhurst are mentioned in the CHN article. Mick: I have no idea who UAH played prior to their D1 status with the old CHA. UAH played a mismash of D-II and D-III teams from the east coas...

Re: The WCHA As We Now Know It Could Be Dead

My money is on St. Thomas in the Twin Cities. They have had a very successful program in D-III, so successful that their conference has voted them out after this year. Most likely they would upgrade their athletic department to D-II (same D-II conference as Bemidji, St. Cloud, Duluth, Mankato, the N...

Re: The WCHA As We Now Know It Could Be Dead

So, I was busy with some home improvements over the weekend, but figured I should update on the Alaska situation based on accounts from USCHO. The Alaska Legislature was unable to override the Governor's veto. The 22 Republicans and the Governor stayed in Wasilla during the whole time and avoided th...

Re: The WCHA As We Now Know It Could Be Dead

We will see if I can get all of this from over on USCHO regarding the chance of a veto override in Alaska: There was a pissing match earlier about whether the special session should be in Juneau or Wasilla. The Democrats felt it should be in the capital, Juneau, the Republicans and Governor wanted i...
