Winning pays dividends
Re: Winning pays dividends
It’s the A10 pedigree compared to the MAAC, in there lies the big difference.
I’d be curious to know if SP’s admission apps were up after their run in the Big Dance? I know when my kid was at Siena , the Saints 2 wins in the Tourney resulted in increased apps.

I agree the A-10 affiliation is important.
What I don't understand is that the NU admin does not seem to have an understanding or appreciation.
They screwed up b-ball at NU (and SJU & DePaul), hockey at NU, soccer in the early 70's....don't they know how to analyze and capitalize on opportunity? A few years ago an Athletic Report was completed and never shared. How can concerned alumni take proactive positions when no information is forthcoming?
Today is graduation at NU. Was anybody advised? Anyone know who the Commencement Speaker is? Times? Venues?
Our games with SJU have ended and I suspect with SBU.

Eagle I am not sure if you read my previous posts about Duquesne where my daughter will be attending in the fall. Their academic side of things are amazing and getting better. They a top 150 rated school nationally. The have a undergrad population of near 6000. This happens in spite of the athletics. Read the Duquesne sports forum and the bitch more then we do. The point I’m making is invest in the academic side first and foremost the athletic side is secondary imho.
By the way iirc bonaventure added several new academic programs in the health fields which will boost enrollment and applications because they were not the before. NU could the same if they wanted. That if you like is a legitimate bitching point.

Re: Winning pays dividends
Before everyone starts bitching about things at NU, some facts are important. The commencement speakers and story are prominently featured on the NU web site under the News category.
Science majors have dramatically increased at NU since the completion of the Galisano building over 10 years ago. In fact, the Nursing enrollment is about 350 students with a goal to grow it further. A problem is that the Galisano building is already at full capacity for its lab space. An addition is needed and hopefully will now be addressed in phase 1 of the next Capital campaign. The reality is that this type of space is very expensive costing another $20+ million by itself. NU needs more large donors for many of its needs.

Re: Winning pays dividends
Philly I totally agree that the money should be spent on the academic side of things. That was my point. NU needs to add a few desired programs and that will give you the increase we are looking for.
Re: Winning pays dividends
Top priority is to double the size of The Golisano Science Building due to success and demand!
That's academics!
Need alumni support now!!!

Re: Winning pays dividends
As usual money is the issue. I always felt without getting Tom Golisano to support the expansion it would be hard to raise the $20 million needed. That’s why I raised the question in another thread about what should be the priority for large gifts, brick and mortar projects or endowment. The problem is we need money for both but you can’t start a project the size of this without a significant lead gift. If I recall we raised about $6 million in addition to Tom’s $10 million gift the last time and we had to look under very rock to find it.
