St. Bonaventure University will honor the 50th anniversary of the 1969-70 Final Four team On Dec. 7 at the Reilly Center as part of the school's 100th anniversary basketball season.

Players and coaches are expected to attend, including Basketball Hall of Famer Bob Lanier and former head coach Larry Weise.

"The banner that hangs in the Reilly Center for the Final Four team is something not many universities across the country can celebrate," St. Bonaventure director of athletics Tim Kenney said in a statement. "To honor this team and the men who made it happen will truly be an event to remember. We look forward to welcoming them back on campus this year for an unforgettable day for all of our fans."

The Bonnies were 25-3 overall and beat Davidson (85-72), North Carolina State (80-68) and Villanova (97-74) in the NCAA Tournament. Bona lost to Jacksonville in the national semifinals, 91-83.

Lanier was injured against Villanova and unable to play against Jacksonville, creating one of Western New York sports' greatest "what ifs."

It is fitting and understandable that Bonnies plans to honor their NCAA team at Reilly.

We play at Bonas this year; the key to both teams, all teams, is to generate excitement.

Bonas is going to have a good team and NU is looking, feeling better everyday.

Given this scenario, would in make sense for both Bonas and NU to jointly honor their 1970 teams together at KeyBank in Buffalo for a possible sellout? Lanier and Murphy reuniting would create many stories and a sellout could be within reach. It could be a win/win for both clubs and a major win for western NY and invigorating college ball. Being in the Final Foul and making the Tourney is world's apart, and the idea it not meant to distract or diminish Bonas great achievement. For scheduling purposes the game would be considered a neutral game and NU would travel to Olean 2010-21 season.
