Iona 68 - Manhattan 42 late in the second half. Iona looked so dreadful a mere 10 days ago. They are back in full force without Gist .

Clues is still out for Iona on medical leave. Asante Gist was hurt a few weeks ago for Iona which contributed to their slump.
SPU remains hot with a W over QU at home...Monmouth took care of business beating the weak Griffs in Buffalo. .. There could actually be three Jersey schools in the MAAC semis this year from Atlantic City. SPU, Rider and Monmouth are playing the best ball in the MAAC. Ensor lucked out.

G. Papas averaging 7 pts a game for Saint Pete’s knocked down 32 pts for the Peacocks tonight. A bench player many have never heard of.

Buffalo News Monday, 2/17/20

Surprising Niagara enhanced its chance for a top-five finish in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and put a crimp in Monmouth’s title hopes on Sunday with a 77-72 victory over the Hawks before 1,111 fans at the Gallagher Center.

Picked to finish 10th in the MAAC coaches preseason poll, then making a sudden coaching change to Greg Paulus, the Purple Eagles’ chances for a strong season did not look good.

Sunday’s victory left Niagara 7-7 in the MAAC race, which is tightly packed. The top five teams in the regular season receive a bye and avoid playing a first-round game in the MAAC tournament.

Re: Around the MAAC / NU - 2.5 games back

Thanks Mike for the MAAC Standings...SPU, Iona, and Siena maintained their wins streaks with W's over Marist, Fairfield and Manhattan...I agree with Suge, due to the extreme parity in this league, the likely winner of the MAAC Tourney is destined for the NCAA PIG Round. I just can't see a team coming out of the MAAC T with 20 plus wins (say 21-22) which would avoid the PIG. Maybe Rider if they get hot ...

Iona 78, Marist 70 -Washington 21 Saint-Furcy 20
Niagara 77, Monmouth 72- Hammond 26- Martin 14
Saint Peter's 61, Fairfield 44 -Estrada 20 -Cruz 9
Siena 65, Manhattan 52 -Camper 16 -Paulicap 12
Rider 79, Quinnipiac 63 -Vaughn 20 -Kelly 17

Standings with "games behind":

Saint Peter's 10-5
Siena 9-5 - ½
Rider 9-6 - 1
Monmouth- 8-6 - 1½
Manhattan- 7-7- - 2½
Iona - 7-7 - 2½
Niagara- 7-7 - 2½
Quinnipiac -6-8 - 3½
Fairfield - 6-8 - 3½
Marist -- 5-9 - 4½
Canisius 4-10 - 5½

From The Niagara Gazette: “Four of [Niagara’s] final six games are against teams tied with or below them in the standings. They visit Fairfield and former coach Chris Casey on Friday.” The Purps have a shot of finishing MAAC play at .500 or better! Not even Warren Buffet saw this coming back in November!
