Don't think so...

Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963 by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport on the grounds of the former Notre Dame Catholic High School. The University was to be led and staffed by the laity independent and locally oriented. Former American ambassador and Diplomat Thomas Patrick Melady served as President of the University from 1976 to 1986. Sacred Heart was the first Catholic university in the United States to be staffed by the laity.[3]

Sacred Heart is the second-largest Catholic university in New England, behind Boston College,[4] and offers more than 80 degree programs to over 8,500 students at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels.[5]

Enrollment has risen from the original class of 173 to over 8,500 full and part-time undergraduate and graduate students, and the faculty has increased from 9 to 281 full-time professors and over 520 adjunct professors since 1963.

SHU is perennially at the bottom of college hockey attendance - maybe 200 a game? Looked like they drew a better crowd to win a title at CT Ice tourney. But I think best case for them the first few years is 50% capacity. Heck RIT has a rabid local fan base and they can rarely sell out Polisseni.

All the power to SHU if they can beat Holy Cross for the next spot in Hockey East. HC women are already there, but it's an arena race and now SHU is winning that.

Realistically for NU - I think Bentley, Colgate etc. would be a better model for a new arena someday. Seat 2400 in an intimate setting, and get to the point where you pack it a la Army/Air Force. The purple and the video board are a huge upgrade but they are going to need a bigger and better rink this decade to keep up with the arms race, not even for attendance reasons.

NU along with MHurst, Cross and RMU have the least desirable rinks in the AHA. Dwyer looks better with the recent improvements, but it still is not comparable to the other newer rinks in the league . I believe Holy Cross has indicated they would commit to playing all their games at the DUC in Worchester if admitted to Hockey East .

Here is a little more info:

Note the comment about other uses. If you can stage a concert you can also play basketball.

Mick: I see no reference to hoops. Honestly , it would make perfect sense since their current "high school gym" is antiquated. If they are having concerts meaning the glass and some seats must be altered.

I still wonder how RoMo can afford a new arena that costs more than it's entire endowment. Any answers?

Hoops and Volleyball as well as concerts, trade show, conventions. They have the arena for hockey about 5 miles away and it is a decent arena. Again I am trying to figure how to post my pictures from previous visits to the arena. RoMO has a scenic and modern campus, Here again is a post on the UPMC Arena . By the way UPMC is a Health Care Giant heafquartered in Downtown Pittsburgh. It's nice to see that health care conglomerates can invest their profits in College Arenas instead of reinvesting and lowering costs of health care.

Many AD's in Hockey East are proposing a new "all-sports" league. Also, Sacred Heart appears to be a serious candidate for Hockey East. I don't think they are building a 4,000 seat venue for long-term membership in Atlantic Hockey.
