Tough weekend for Hockey that could make or break the season

Postby NewEnglander » Tue Feb 11, 2020 11:04 am

Niagara plays at Sacred Heart Saturday night and Sunday afternoon which could be helpful for their chances. The reason is that Sacred Heart also plays an important game tonight at AIC so they will have 3 games in 5 1/2 days. First place is on the line for both AIC and Sacred Heart in tonight's game as they are tied in points with AIC having a game in hand. For Niagara it would be wise to see Sacred Heart pull out the win as they don't need any more incentive for Sacred Heart this weekend. The short span between Saturday and Sunday's games should favor Niagara a bit with the extra game this week for Sacred Heart. With the unlikely possibility of a Niagara sweep they could move into the 5th and final tournament bye spot. Also they could just as easily solidify a first round road trip with 2 losses. Sacred Heart is a very good offensive team and the Niagara D will have to play their best to win. This series will determine the positioning for the playoffs and the Purple Eagles have to go into it as if it were already the playoffs.

Spot on NE. This is a very important weekend for NU in terms of playoff seeding. Honestly, I would very happy with a split this weekend against SHU in Bport. The remaining schedule consists of a home and home with RIT and two games with ROMO at Dwyer.

Sacred Heart has dominated and humiliated Niagara over the three seasons. As a fan I hold a personal grudge against the Pioneers for their action in 2018 when they swept the Purps at Dwyer and absolutely turned the goon juice on, including checking a Purple Eagle in front of the SHU bench and then having the bench work over the NU player in the final seconds of a blowout.

Sacred Heart maybe the first place team however they are a bunch of goons and classless slobs from the head coach on down. I hope Niagara can play at their best to be competitive in this series , however SHU is the "class" (I use that word very lightly) of the league this year and if NU struggles against Holy Cross and lets themselves get into penalty problems at Mercyhurst, could be a long weekend. Play defense and rely on the goalie and resist being drawn into stupid penalties and fights against these lowlife as and we have a chance.

That's too bad. It was the one advantage Niagara may have had with the extra game this week for Sacred Heart.
