Tim Cluess steps down

Postby Suge » Fri Mar 13, 2020 3:41 pm

Looks like he will stay on in some sort of advisory role but he stepped down to focus on his health. Wish him the best.

Both Grasso and Rick Pitino names have come up as possible replacement.

As I grew up on the same block with the Cluess' , my family's prayers are with Tim and his family.

JIM: Cluess did a wonderful job at Iona getting the program to four straight NCAA appearances. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during this difficult period for him. He was a "good guy" by all accounts and never tarnished Iona. IMO, his strategy of signing xfers and Juco's was quite effective and should be a model for many MAAC programs since mid's cannot sign 5 star or 4 star recruits.

Good article on Clues in the NY Post :

He leaves, arguably, as the greatest coach in the history of the MAAC, a place where an awful lot of fine careers were launched.

“Every day I coach,” he told me once, “is a gift.”
