Wow is right. This hire certainly puts the MAAC on the map.

With that kind of payout it means only one thing; Iona must have sights on a higher conference affiliation. Big East? But where would they play? Must be a new arena on the horizon too.

There are other programs/ schools ahead of IC to join the BE.
Just can't see that happening.
NU had it's chance at inauguration of BE in 1978-9 and play conference games in Buffalo.

That's basically what Nate Oats would have been making had he stayed at UB (https://buffalonews.com/2019/03/14/nate ... extension/). It's also about double what Cluess was making. Huge commitment, but not sure if it's "leaving the MAAC" bucks. Feels more like a commitment being a mid-major player on the national scale, which I'd imagine would be great for the MAAC.

That scumbag should never be allowed on a college campus. Iona has hit a new low.

No surprise, the comments are better than the story:

Here a bit of info on the Iona alumnus likely involved:

Love him or hate him, his hiring has certainly made a splash across the sporting world. Here is an interview with the Iona AD.

With no live sports to watch, sports fans are craving for sports news. No better time to pull a shocker than now to draw attention.

I don't agree with Pittino's actions but I am not as adamant about him returning to coaching.
Why would Iona pay him $1.1? His net worth is reported to be $45 million, so money wasn't an issues.
If he learned some lessons if will turn out to be a good hire for Iona and the MAAC.
