MAAC Recruiting & Transfers
Re: MAAC Recruiting & Transfers
Great news for St. Pete's!
Re: MAAC Recruiting & Transfers
WOW, this has been a long-time coming since the Yantelli Center has been outdated for the last three decades. Kudos to SPU for stepping up!$5 million donation kicks off overhaul of Saint Peter’s University athletic center
I didn't realize "SPC" defeated Duke in the NIT quarters in the late 60's. Where have I been ?He made his mark as a basketball player and member of the ‘Run Baby, Run’ team that reached the defeated Duke in the NIT quarterfinals more than 50 years ago.” n celebration of the proud legacy of Peacock basketball, Mac Mahon has made the decision to honor his former 1967-68 men’s basketball teammates and name the transformed space the “Run Baby Run Arena.”

In the late 60s, St Pete’s had some great basketball teams . I recall going to a game in 1968 or 1969 during a winter break with NU Vs St Pete’s. It was at the old armory in JC and recorded the largest crowd in NJ for an indoor game. St Pete’s had a great player in Elnardo Webster. Murph was unstoppable and NU won.

If memory serves (takin' a risk here), Elnardo Webster had the Garden record for points scored for many years... maybe 55. I don't think he played in the NBA, or if he did, it wasn't a notable next level performance. I seem to recall he was about 6' 5" or 6".

The last time I saw a game at St Peters was when Frank Layden was coaching. I don't remember a thing about the game but after we went over to the Clam Broth House in Hoboken for pasta and langostino. Frank always knows the best restaurants.

Mickey, I grew up in Jersey City right above Hoboken. We often went to the Clam Broth House for a special holiday meal. At the time, there wasn’t a lot of places to choose from . Hoboken was even worse than Jersey City in the 60-70s.

First, the gentlemen's name who was a star at SP's later became a star in the Jesuit community and the pastor of my church, the premier Jesuit church in NYC on Park Avenue and 84th St. was Victor Yanatelli. Fr Vic was Pastor when my first born was christened there in 1985 by my Fr in Law's good friend from Georgetown. Both were Doctors.
