A field house was mentioned but with no details. The term is open to interpretation. The same can be said about Gallagher “expansion” but i believed it was backroom oriented, lockers, offices, training rooms, etc. I once proposed adding 20,000 square feet to the lower level at ground level for student use and turning over parts of the current lower level rear for athletic department use. A conversation for another day.

One item covered was the expansion of the NCAA no face to face recruiting prohibition from April 15 to May 31. NLI signing date commensment remains April 15 for now. No word on change of transfer policy as of yet. Things are in flux.

I assume there will less funds for physical improvements for small schools moving forward unless major donors step up.

The problem is potential major donors may have seen their portfolio value decrease by a significant amount. Small business owners are more likely to hold on to cash reserves to weather the storm rather than make a charitable contribution. On the other hand when this behind us I would like to believe we will see a boom as we try to become less dependent on foreign counties for many needs, or as vacation destinations.
It is interesting to see a number of event venues being turned into temporary health care facilities. May be EAGLE knows the answer to this: Didn’t the state fund the construction of the Carrier Dome so it could be used to meet potential emergency uses for upstate NY. Is the story true? I haven’t heard any talk about using it to help fight Covid 19.

Yes, in 1978, an election year, a budget deal between Gov Hugh Carey (D) and Sen Tarky Lomabardi (R) of Syracuse and head of Senate Finance, secured $27 million ((about $85 million in today’s “constant and current” dollars).

Up and until that time, NU was petty much on pare with SU; the Dome was a game changer.

Facilities make a huge difference in managing a sports program as an independent profit center for a university and the Syracuse example has been repeated over and over and over…The real question is how to go about obtaining needed facilities to grow a university’s academic portfolio.

This old stuff and requires the engineering university sport’s programs to 1) be worthy of larger facilities and 2) financing of the same. Both require outstanding marketing and colorful coaches. The Niagara advantage is that we have the Falls, an incredible asset that makes the Falls the second most visited attraction in north America. That in itself should warrant a convention center which could be configured for basketball and hickey and paid for by the State, city, county just like the Dome, the TU Center for Siena, MSG for SJU, etc….all we have to do is provide and exciting entertainment package and NU could be a sought after tenant for 30 +/- (15 b-ball and 15 hockey) games a year…. Niagara Falls has had a corrupt administration for many, many years. No idea what it is like now but if it hasn’t been cleaned up it needs to be, pronto! That’s the first steep.

The coaching cache a NU is on the upswing between Paulus and Lammers…for b-basll, play DH’s in KeyBank Center and the BAC in Roch and grow excitement, coverage, awareness and not only will athletics improve but applications for admission, etc. Lammers seems to have “righted” the ship and western NY loves hockey…regionalize NU hockey to include Roch via the BAC and Canada and we can do this….new facilities and someone else is paying for the improvements.

Carpe diem…just copying was SU did, Siena and others….slam dunk, just copy success!
