Story from the BUFFALO NEWS :

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will announce that it is suspending fall sports competition, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Multiple sources have confirmed to the News that the MAAC, which includes Canisius and Niagara, will make an announcement this afternoon regarding its fall sports slate. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports initially reported the cancellation.

At Canisius, the suspension of fall sports will affect men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, men's cross country and women's cross country. It will also impact rowing and men's golf, which compete in the fall but have spring championships.

At Niagara, the suspension of fall sports will affect men's cross country, women's cross country, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball. It will also impact men's tennis, women's tennis, men's golf and women's golf, which compete in the fall but have spring championships.

As of right now, the suspension of fall sports is not expected to impact the start of winter sports, including basketball and ice hockey.

The MAAC originally announced June 29 that it would delay the start of its fall sports competition to Sept. 11, and that athletes, including basketball players, would not be allowed on campus in June or July for offseason conditioning workouts, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The MAAC then announced on July 15 that it has canceled nonconference volleyball and men's and women's soccer games for the fall semester.

The Atlantic 10 Conference, of which St. Bonaventure is a member, postponed all fall sports to the spring semester on July 17. The Atlantic 10’s postponement includes a reexamination period in September that provides for the possibility of an earlier restart, should public health conditions improve
