Atlantic Hockey Tournament Format Announced
2/19/2021
Atlantic Hockey has announced changes to the upcoming 2021 Atlantic Hockey Tournament.

The tournament will still take place over the first three weekends in March, but the entire tournament will be played on campus this year. Additionally, the first round has been made into a single elimination round and that game is to be played on either March 6th or 7th. The following weekend, March 12th-14th, will be best 2-out-of-3 games with the semifinals and finals being played on Friday, March 19th and Saturday, March 20th, respectively.

To continue the league’s efforts to mitigate the threat of COVID-19, the first two rounds will be played within the regional pods our teams have been playing in all season. The only East-West crossover will come during championship weekend where the semifinals will see the top remaining seed coming out of the West playing the lowest remaining seed coming out of the East and vice versa. Air Force will be assigned to either the East Pod or the West Pod based on final standings.

The allowance of fans will be determined on an institution by institution basis. Once we reach the championship round, Atlantic Hockey will work with the host institution and government officials to determine if fans can be permitted for the championship. In the event that fans are allowed, an announcement will be made and passes will be coordinated through the host institutions. If fans are not permitted, all games will be available on FloHockey.

One other note, as a result of the season’s pod schedule, Atlantic Hockey will be recognizing Eastern and Western Pod regular season champions as well as sets of regular season award winners from each regional pod. The winners of all awards will be announced prior to the start of the semifinals on March 18th.

2021 Atlantic Hockey Tournament Schedule (Campus Sites)
First Round – Single Elimination – March 6 or 7, 2021
Quarterfinals – Best 2-of-3 – March 12-14, 2021
Semifinals – March 19, 2021
Championship – March 20, 2021

I wonder if the Final will be carried on a regional sports net.

Update on the tournament. Should Niagara beat Mercyhurst they will play at Robert Morris in the quarterfinals. Holy Cross has a Covid positive case and is out of the tournament so Sacred Heart receives a first round bye so the top 6 now have byes with only 2 first round games. Quarterfinals are a West/East pod configuration so the other first round winner of Bentley/AFA plays at AIC. Set quarterfinals are RIT at Canisius and Sacred Heart at Army. AFA is in the East pod because of where they finished. That is because their opponent Bentley was an East pod team.

I would think an Army - AIC final is quite probable.

NU is up at 5pm today at MHurst.

NU SOG IN 2ND 17-10 while FOW edge in period went to MH 1-9.
One period to decide who plays this weekend!
That's got to be a rush for 20-22 year olds!

Good to see they didn't fold when they fell behind 2-0 while controlling play. Third period should be exciting entering it tied at 2.
