Re: AIC gets shipped off to Fargo ND

Post by le »

AIC gets shipped off to Fargo ND to play #1 seed North Dakota. Nuts ! AIC should have been assigned to Albany or Bport.

Army, PC and UC did not receive an at-large bid.

SLU after upsetting QU to win the ECAC Championship, withdrew today due to a pos Covid test. What a shame.

Last two in: Notre Dame and Neb Omaha.

Really disappointed that AIC wasn't at least a 3 seed instead of the last 4 seed. Had they lost the AHC championship they probably still would have been in it so how could they be the lowest seed? They were playing kind of similar to when Niagara made it as an at large as a 3 seed. Another AHC could easily have been the last pick instead of Notre Dame when St. Lawrence dropped out because of the positive Covid test of their coach. If you want to blame anyone for that pick blame Minnesota. They lost twice at home to Notre Dame. That is the only reason a barely above .500 Notre Dame team got in.

Notre Dame means more money for the Hockey tourney. Just like in basketball, the name schools get priority.

I know it 's been a weird year due to covid, but the selections and bracketing are a bit disappointing. AIC not only was dished with a 4 seed and to top it off, they get shipped to Fargo ND to play #1 ND. AIC was projected to be in either the Albany or Bport regionals. UMass is the only eastern team in the Bport regional. The other three teams in Bport are Lake Sup State, Bemidji and Wisconsin. What ? The only explanation I can think of is that Guv Lament is not allowing any attendance for NCAA's in Bport. So, what's the difference! Is the BIG Q (creep) in NYS allowing attendance in Albany ?

"Looking forward re NU Hockey"

NU only graduates five seniors: Chris Harpur (top defensemen), Justin Kendall (9th scoring), Eric Cooley (7th scoring), Jack Zielnski (played in 16 games), and goalie Brian Wilson (8 games). Third leading scorer Jack Billings hopefully returns as a redshirt Senior. (?)

We return our top seven point leaders in Sommer, Stenlund, Billings, Naumovski, Evingson, Cox and Brandt. Losing Harpur on D is a significant loss, but we return the bulk of our experienced defensemen in Brandt, Evingson, Mysak, Hermann, Pomeroy and Persson.

Chad Veltri has to be considered one of the top netminders in the AHA after playing out of mind late in the season well into the AHA playoffs. As a soph this season, he can only improve which is scary ! NU will need to produce more offense after struggling all season to put the puck in the net. With the return of our top seven point leaders, NU's offensive production should improve next season.

The future is bright !

Is southern Ontario still a "hot" spot for recruiting?

Shouldn't NU be a great destination for Canadian players, and shouldn't we be a top team, year in, year out?

It happened. Another team had to drop out of the NCAA tournament and the rules stipulate no replacement if done so more than 24 hours after selection. Therefore Boston College gets a bye to the quarterfinal round to play the winner of BU-St. Cloud for a Frozen 4 berth. Notre Dame had to withdraw. Just a shame that Army wasn't selected in the first place instead of Notre Dame as they would have been a perfect fit for Albany.

Why didn't the NCAA have a few "back-ups" for such a small field of 16 ? Army, Bowling Green or PC should have been on a the "wait list".

Mike- From what I have heard, the AHA league still has a stigma (although the gap is narrowing) with potential recruits compared to the ECAC, Hockey East and the western leagues.
