Close to 900 players are in the transfer portal. At his point, who knows right...

Quite frankly it is not seniors that I worry about. Every player in any year is at play for a transfer in this crazy NCAA. Hopefully, the coach gets commitments from existing players while he can recruit replacements. Binding year to year contracts after each season would help this craziness.

Is there a deadline for entering transfer portal?
Is there a website to see if any of our players have entered?

Nwandu going pro, Roberts coming back. Cintron commented on one of Roberts' social media posts about coming back with "we've got work to do," so my guess is he's back as well.

Davonte Gaines transferring from Tennessee basketball, second Vol to transfer

Davonte Gaines announced Friday on Twitter he's transferring from Tennessee basketball after two seasons.

"First and foremost I want to thank God for the chance to play the game that I love each and every day," Gaines wrote. "I also want to thank the University of Tennessee, everyone who has helped me during my time here, and Vol Nation for accepting me with open arms from Day One. I want to thank coach Barnes and the coaching staff for taking a shot on a kid from Buffalo. I will forever be grateful.

"I'm honored to have been able to wear the orange & white the last two seasons, but I have decided to enter the transfer portal."

Drew Pember announced his transfer earlier Friday. Gaines and Pember were two of five signees for the Vols in their 2019 recruiting class.

The Buffalo, New York, native played his way into a key reserve role as a freshman, but he struggled to gain consistent playing time as a sophomore. Gaines clocked double-digit minutes twice, did not play in eight games and averaged 3.6 minutes.

He averaged 10.4 minutes per game and played in 29 of UT's 31 games as a freshman.

"Vol Nation, I will miss you," Gaines wrote. "Your support for me as a player and as a person is something I hold near and dear. The relationships I have built here will last for the rest of my life. Thank you to my teammates for allowing me to be a part of their lives and pushing me to become a better person and player. I hope that I have had a positive impact on those I came into contact with."

Vols coach Rick Barnes called on Gaines late in UT's SEC Tournament semifinal loss to Alabama on March 13. The Vols guard got a stop on Alabama forward Herbert Jones, the SEC player of the year, grabbed a rebound and was fouled with 25 seconds to play, with the Vols trailing 69-68.

He missed both free-throw attempts. Barnes and the Vols praised the way Gaines did his job in defending Jones and getting the rebound. Many came to comfort Gaines after the free throws.

"We knew he would fight his heart out, we knew he would guard Herb Jones and he did," Barnes said. "e came up with (the rebound). We all feel bad for him because he did not knock (the free throws) down, which would have given us the chance to take the lead. But I'm proud of him because he did the job we asked him to do."

Gaines is a player on a very deep talented Vols roster. He would be an immediate impact player at NU. GP should be all over 6'7 Gaines. I believe NU recruited him out of high school.
