The AHA has closed the gap with the rest of college hockey.

Good showing by the AHA this weekend.

NU will find their offensive footing.

Look forward to seeing NU v Penn State!

I hope it's not another season of having to hang our hats on " moral " victories . It seems like every season follows the same script , continually getting out shot game after game and tying games that should have been wins that slipped away at crunch time . The tide has to turn at some point . this level of mediocrity year after year is getting real old .

TRU:

I firmly believe the primary issue with NU's "mediocrity of late" is that the other programs in the AHA have simply "caught up." This has created parity in the AHA with the former bottom feeders (AIC, SHU etc) challenging for the league title. AIC, SHU, Bentley, CC , RIT now have state of the venues which is beneficial for recruiting and sustaining success. Our current venue is in the bottom tier of the league with Mercyhurst and maybe Holy Cross. It does make a difference.

Le:

Totally agree with your point. Lang has done a great job at AIC and Sacred Heart, Bently, Mercyhurst have all stepped up their commitment to hockey.

There is room on the campus for a Fieldhouse that may cost $25-$35mm.
Imagine a capital campaign that might raise $140mm and have a carve out for such a facility that could be financed over ten to twenty years.
Imagine!
Would help with a serious anchor donor...imagine!
Name on the building and more! Imagine!

The Hart facility is already taken at Holy Cross. Guess we need to find a new donor. Seriously isn't that named after one of your relatives, jhart?

Where did you get your numbers. Try $50-60 million. The new rink at RIT cost $40 million about ten years ago. Add in rising construction costs plus Niagara Falls’ “union” issues and you’re looking at at least a 25% markup. It would likely be half that to upgrade Dwyer to a two sided rink. It ain’t going to happen unless some one hits Powerball. Not to mention some recent moves on campus that aren’t exactly exciting many alumni.

Mick: I agree. I believe the horse has left the barn regarding this matter. If they had followed through with the original expansion plans in the late 90's to finish the "four sided" Dwyer Arena, the costs would have been in the $10 mill range.
