I guess I understated the number of transfers by a little.
As far as Mitchell, it is great that he is playing another year. I still do not think understand the Covid year eligibility stuff. He played 3 years at Brown,( Brown did not even play in the Covid year). and played last year as a graduate transfer at Niagara.
This will certainly be a test of the coaching ability of Coach Paulus to draw out some firepower.

The Covid rule is simple, if you were enrolled in the 20-21 academic year you get a fifth year of eligibility. What I am not certain about is whether scholarships given to fifth year athletes are additional to the 13 scholarship limit in men’s basketball. Initially they were but that may have been because of the glut of players eligible.

Re: 2023 MBB Recruiting / Mitchell to return / GP's take on NU's new transfers

Post by le »

Great news on Mitchell's return as he adds experience, maturity and much needed size.

After reviewing the depleted rosters in the MAAC due to the portal, I would reasonably assume most teams are in
a rebuild mode especially Iona, Manhattan, Fairfield, Siena and Quinny. It's difficult to judge where NU stands based on their defections, but I'm cautiously optimistic they will be competitive next season. We have a ton of of new bodies with D1 college game day experience. NU transfer class includes five kids who played significant minutes at Wisc-Green Bay, Louisiana Tech, UMBC, Loyola Marymount and Ball State.

Even the bad guys realize how bad the portal is! Why doesn’t the NCAA do something?

The NCAA just within a short period of time has absolutely destroyed college athletics . The portal and NIL were bad enough , then schools essentially went into the portal too with all the crazy jumping from conference to conference . Long standing conferences like the PAC 12 have been destroyed , along with the many rivalries that will go by the wayside . Like always , money was the driving force to the chaos that the NCAA has created .
