If you can get hold of the Sports Illustrated issue that featured Murphy's debut vs. LIU, you can see his form perfectly. He would get about 24 inches or more off the ground, shoulders squared to the hoop and a perfect off-the-fingertips release. His most amazing jumper was when he'd run to the deep corner, stop on a dime and drill that shot from 21 feet out. Sometimes the only way you knew his shot went through the hoop was that the bottom of the net would move slightly. His jumpers rarely hit iron. No one could stop him 1 on 1. And he did pretty well as an undersized pro. His speed translated well at that level.

Yeah, I missed his elevation which was incredible. I think I still have the picture from the Index of him stuffing Bob Lsnier.

Wish I had kept that edition. It was printed in his senior year as an insert and tribute. Most people would not believe it happened. I think it might have been in his freshman year.

Great memories guys of Murph !

FYI: I believe the Index is stored on microfiche prior to modern day computer storage. Many years ago, I requested a copy of a 1979 Index and the school was able to send me a copy. I don' recall the details in terms of who I contacted at NU. If you know the year and month, I would think alumni relations would be able to assist you in your search.

The article says the NCCC team is really loaded with talent...two Western NY POYs, and an honorable mention all-State player. Bradberry attended 5 different high schools including a prep institution before NCCC. Beilein is the current coach there.

The Men's basketball team did announce an official signing this week. They signed Ahmad Henderson II from Chicago's Brother Rice HS. He is quite the dynamo receiving many rewards in the Chicago area in a big city competitive league. NU had a little success a few years ago signing another 5'9" small guard. Looks like Coach Paulus got a winner. Wish him the best at NU.

Watched some youtube on him. Nice shooting touch but didn't see much passing by him and his release is low. Will be tougher to make those shots in college. Would recommend a higher release and watching top point guards before he graduates from HS. Anyone else look at his videos?

Reviewing the ESPN top centers that haven't committed....at the 3 star level (lowest ranked) are several young men with no current offers and some are on the east coast: WV, GA, NC all rated at 77. Have not looked them up on youtube, but will.

Just saw that Henderson’s team, Brother Rice, is now ranked #8 in the Chicago area with a 15-2 record. Nice always getting players from winning programs, especially major metro areas.
