Very weird, only 2 weeks before the season opener. The Jaspers were picked in the Top 3 of the MAAC in most preseason polls.

Steve Masiello is no longer Manhattan's head coach, sources confirmed to CBS Sports.

the first reporter with it.

Masiello's contract expired earlier this year. Was told by sources he had a shaky relationship with his AD.

The season starts in less than two weeks.

This guy seemed to have lived on borrowed time. He thought he had that big time job 8 years ago and he was lucky Manhattan brought him back. His subsequent teams never had the success of that 2013-14 team. I am sure that a new AD was not going to be intimidated and wanted to see results before giving the financial security of a new deal. This however is Real Tough for the players.

Transferring- their best player seems headed that way and others may follow. That will set them way back. What'll they do, use walk-ons?

Very odd to fire him at this time of year. One article notes Masiello's team was picked to finish high in the conference. Is there another factor we aren't aware of?

Pretty stupid move by the AD for blowing up the program 14 days before the opener. Bob Bynes would never have placed this program in such a precarious position.

It would seem there might be more to the story.

Did the AD expect no ramifications ? Here ya go :
This has been a very tough day for me and, honestly speaking, coach was the most caring person I ever met,” Perez, a Bronx native who averaged 18.9 points and 4.5 assists last season, tweeted. “He cared so much for his players and honestly speaking it would [be] very difficult for me to put on a jasper’s uniform again if coach ain’t on those sidelines.

“Love you coach!”

Perez told The Post he entered the transfer portal on Tuesday. He believes several teammates will leave as well, based on their reaction to the news and conversations he has had with them.

I’m hearing that Masielo, in the lame duck year of his contract, demanded an extension, school refused, and the rest is history. Stunning development on the eve of a season where Manhattan figured to be a player in the MAAC behind a senior-laden squad. #MAAChoops

Manhattan interim head coach RaShawn Stores is a familiar face.

Experienced guard, who graduated top-10 in assists in team history and was a MAAC Champion under Masiello as a player before joining his staff.

He’s now the biggest X-Factor #MAACHoops has this year.
