Manhattan interim head coach RaShawn Stores
Re: Manhattan interim head coach RaShawn Stores
If --le's-- statement is correct, then Masiello deserves one of those "stupid signs" referenced by a southern comedian. Many pro's in their last contract year work extra hard to increase their stats to have leverage at the bargaining table, with their team or another. Masiello should have done the same, with a favored team consisting of upperclassmen in his hands. Wonder if he'd do the same thing again.... wonder if any other coach would be so short-sighted. Reminds me of a Kyrie Irving-like decision, i.e. not looking at all the angles before sawing the limb you're on.
Re: Manhattan interim head coach RaShawn Stores
I dunno. If I were AD , I would somehow make this season work with current coach who’s team was picked for 2nd in the MAAC. Steve M seems just as guilty for blowing up and forcing the AD into the “parting ways “ scenario. It’s all so unfortunate. My point was I would have labored hard and long to retain him for one more season.
Re: Manhattan interim head coach RaShawn Stores
I still feel there's more to the story that isn't known . Firing a coach at this late date is usually done with issues far more serious than a contract extension . What coach going forward is going to be comfortable with an AD who seemed to act so recklessly with no regard to the players and fans ? I suspect RaShawn Stores will ultimately be named the permanent coach , most coaches will want no part of that job .
Re: Manhattan interim head coach RaShawn Stores
On the flip side, what coach would quit or threaten to quit at this point in time if he didn’t get an immediate contract extension. Particularly considering the school took him back after his leaving, the degree issue and his marginal job performance since. You would think you would play out the season and prove your worth and deal with it then. I agree there has to be a lot more to this story and may be the contract extension has absolutely nothing to do with it at all. It appears some one jumped on that idea and everyone has run with it, but it may be just “fake news”. There just has to be more to this story, inquiring minds want to know!
Re: Manhattan interim head coach RaShawn Stores
I can see both sides of the issue . A coach whose status is in limbo is at a real disadvantage from a recruiting standpoint . Aside from the the current players that have bailed , you have to believe potential recruits who were considering MC are looking elsewhere . One aspect that has been overlooked by the MC situation , is the negative impact it will have on the competitive balance of the conference . Hopefully MC will still have enough talent so that they can adequately compete .

A couple of questions:
Don’t you have to be a matriculated student to play on a school’s sports team? The current semester is more than half over, how can you transfer and register at this late date. I think you would need to wait until you could register for the next semester before you would be eligible.
Second question, don’t most head coaches have an agent or legal assistance in handling their contract?

Seems like there sure was a lot going on at Manhattan.

AD always had issues with this volatile character and when he demanded extension prior to season start, he lost his poker game.
Total loser to do this to his kids!

ETHAN BOCK : Perez's late registration
Five days after hitting the transfer portal in the wake of Steve Masiello's firing, Jose Perez found a new home. The former MAAC Preseason Player of the Year will suit up for West Virginia at some point this season.
The 6-5 wing operates best as an iso threat who posts up smaller guards, draws contacts and serves as a secondary playmaker. A season ago, Perez ranked 19th in MAAC-play in true shooting percentage, second in assist rate and eighth in free throw rate, per KenPom.
Of course, Perez must navigate a couple of roadblocks in order to contribute this year. The first, as hinted at earlier, is obtaining eligibility. But beyond that, he must also adjust to one of the best leagues in the country and learn a new system on the fly. Additionally, he struggled on defense last season, ranking second to last on his team in DBPR (a metric that measures defensive performance) per EvanMiya.
For the 'Eers, though, it's a worthwhile gamble. With the departures of Taz Sherman, Sean McNeil and Jalen Bridges, they have a major scoring void along the perimeter. Perhaps Perez can help, even if it's just a small-ball 4 role off the pine.
He likely won’t be alone, as Perez retweeted multiple tweets saying that multiple teammates will follow him. Including Perez, there are 10 graduate student and fifth-year players on the Jaspers’ roster.
The reason for the firing of Coach Masiello isn’t exactly clear, but Marianne Reilly, the director of athletics at Manhattan College, said in a press release “we determined that it was the right time to begin rebuilding from the top down.”

Silverio and Diallo have entered the transfer portal as well.
