The bubble finally burst. I was very surprised all year that this team won with the poor shooting percentages of the stars and almost everyone else. It worked when the other team would be forced into 25+ turnovers.. In any organized ball, shooting 31% FG and 20 % for 3’s is not going to win.
Even though many of the staters will return, they must improve this to achieve higher results.

Re: WBB MAAC Thread/ Manhattan 81 - Niagara 68
Tell Izzo about seedings as his #4 Spartans lost to #13 OSU today by ten!
Re: WBB MAAC Thread/ Manhattan 81 - Niagara 68
Iona 73, Manhattan 60
"Niagara athletic director Simon Gray said the Purple Eagles are in contention for a Women’s NIT bid, if Iona wins Saturday; the No. 2 seed in the MAAC, Gray said, earns a WNIT bid. If Manhattan beats Iona on Saturday, then the Purple Eagles would hope for an at-large bid to the WNIT or for an invite to the Women’s Basketball Invitational, an eight-team tournament held later this month in Lexington, Ky.
The WNIT's 64-team field will be announced late Sunday evening after the NCAA Tournament is released. The full bracket will be announced Monday and the first round begins Wednesday."

Re: NU WBB heading to the NIT
That's fantastic. Good thing the top seed Iona won the NCAA bid. The next highest seed left gets the autobid. Had Iona lost they would have received the WNIT autobid. Coming in second has it's rewards. Now this is a 64 team field so it should be straight 1/16, 2/15, 3/14 etc. Looking at the records they likely will fall in the 15/16 seed range as 15 of the 32 league regular season champions got autobids and the at large bids generally are better than 14 seeds. Those in the major conferences even with worse records will likely be high seeds as well. I would not be surprised to see them matched up against Syracuse as a 15 vs. 2.

Re: NU - UW Green Bay in WBB NIT
Probably hard for many readers to appreciate, but in the late 60s- early 70s, most NU students wanted Niagara to go to the NIT. I clearly remember the Indoc cheer NU NIT. The NIT was a tourney for many Eastern schools to be selected for. Everyone wanted to play in the Garden rather than go to no-where- ville..

Re: NU - UW Green Bay in WBB NIT
Niagara women get hosed going to Green Bay Wisconsin in March. How do you get there without running into a major storm? The W softball team played 2 weeks in Hawaii without any wins and these winners get a trip to Green Bay. Ha.

Back in that day Philly Eagle there were 16 teams in the NCAA Tournament.
When we defeated Penn in the first round, Elite Eight , a term that didn't even exist back then.
Let's just celebrate our women and it's Women's Month in America!
