Le: we put together that night at NU pretty good. Truth be told, we should have bull rushed Ruland and put him on his heels. NU will be fine next year. Excited about hockey to NCAA this year!
Re: Iona over NU in Semis /MBB MAAC Thread
Marist for the first time as a member of the MAAC advances to the championship game . Marist went 6-14 in league play will now be playing for the auto-bid. Wild stuff.

John. Yeah we had the numbers and the brains, but unfortunately not the bulk. For once in my life , common sense seized control of my senses. It would have been an ugly scene. Riot like !
Off topic. Kudos to Marist !

Second-half struggles stump Niagara against Iona /MBB MAAC Thread
Somewhat disappointing outcome last night, but GP has the potential to get us back to the promised land. It was basically a .500 season which indicates overall mediocre performance. I think we are all hoping GP continues to grow as a HC. NU played hard and left it all on the floor. RP’s intensive press was the game changer in the second half resulting in multiple turnovers...FYI, the guys over at the Iona Forum were very complimentary of NU's performance.
Anyways, here are excerpts from the Gazette article.
“I thought (Iona) did a really great job forcing a couple of turnovers and converting off of those,” said Paulus. Reaching the MAAC tournament as a top-five seed for a third straight year, Paulus said this year’s edition of Niagara is helping the program turn the corner.
“I’m just proud of these guys and hopefully we can continue to learn from these type of lessons,” Paulus said. “... These moments are really hard. It’s emotional in the locker room, because you put so much into it. and so for us, we just want to try to continue to be the best version of ourselves. and I thought we left it all on the courts. and that’s all I can ask of our guys.“
Buff News:
“They were ready,” Iona coach Rick Pitino said of the Purple Eagles. “They were incredibly coached, very disciplined, took advantage of our weaknesses. And they gave a special performance.”
Despite going without a field goal for more than four minutes late in the second half, the Gaels limited the Purple Eagles to one 3-pointer in the second half, made 19 of 21 free throws – including 12 of 13 in the second half – and finished with 28 rebounds to Niagara’s 23.
“It was a spectacular second half,” Pitino said.
“We’re trying to lay the foundation and the piece for what this program has become,” Paulus said. “It’s one of the things I shared with this group, is that we want them to be proud of what they’ve done here, and what future teams will do. They’re going to be a part of that. And the class that came before them and the class that came before them.
“We want to continue to build off that. We want to play meaningful games in late February and March, to try to put ourselves in these positions.”

Nothing to be ashamed of , it's easy to forget that most preseason predictions had the Purps at or near the bottom of the conference . With GP at the helm I feel good about the direction of the program .

I noticed that America East reseeds after each round, not a bad idea for the MAAC. It would certainly give more value to the regular season which the MAAC needs desperately as well as the tournament. What was last night attendance? Is anyone really driving down to AC to watch a 1 seed play an 11 tonight. And can we please find another site for the women, and limit both men and women to the best eight teams after the regular season, all it does is expand the number of days for the tournament so no one has the time to go.

If Marist somehow pulls it off tonight there will be serious calls to reset the tournament to 8 or reseed all the way through. The MAAC would be the laughingstock of the NCAA having its losing record champion in a play in game to get to play a number 1 seed. The conference could go from biggest winner (St. Peters last year) to biggest loser in one year.
