NU & MAAC Portal Activity: NU Signs 7 Transfers/Jucos

Post by Suge »

Bryce Moore has entered "The Portal"

Myles Thompson-St Francis(PA)--contact by NU
Jay'den Turner-Queens University of Charlotte--contact by NU

Kidtrell Blocker-UB--no contact. Should, IMO. Rochester native.
Joe Jones- Georgia St.-- no contact. Should, IMO. Buffalo native. Half brother of Greg Oden. Power 5 schools were drooling over him when he was a middle schooler. Things haven't worked out for him but he can still play.

3 "ships available. With little to no offers to incoming freshmen after the Henderson signing, it appears NU will look to fiil those with transfers/veterans.

Thanks Suge for the update. Filling the remaining three scholarships with transfers and or JUCOS makes perfect sense to me.

Bryce Moore actually started for NU at the beginning of the season. Showed promise but was not consistent with his shot and eventually got less and less minutes. Needed to put on 25 LBs to be a legitimate swing man. In 2 more years of maturing, he can be a player. No one wants to wait his turn anymore.

Keith Kiner has entered "The Portal"

Brigg McClain(Hartford)-interest from NU
Naim Miller(D2 Edinboro/Mount St Marys)-interest from NU
Tony Felder Jr.(VMI)-interest from NU

MacDonald. Solomon. Mackey. Hill. Brown. Moore. Throw in Kiner if you want. 2 guard/wings don't seem to stick around very long under Paulus. Just an observation. Not an indictment.

Yeah, I thought Brown and Kiner had some decent upside. Frankly in light of the "portal", MAAC programs should follow the Iona model in terms of signing transfers and Jucos. What's the sense of developing young players out of HS when most of them are pursuing transferring after one season ? Load up on the transfers, it's the new world of mid-major hoops !

Might be a good idea to stay away from point guards under 6 feet. The ones usually signed aren't productive and give up size. There are some very good ones playing in the NCAA tourney, but the MAAC has no shot at them usually. I've heard names in the tournament that are players from NY State. Did we lose all Canadian contacts? The Toronto Metro area always produces a few good players.

Good point '71 with regard to Canadian recruits . The NBA has plenty of Canadian players , NU is never going to get the 4 & 5 stars , however , there still plenty of good players available . Under Lonergan and Armstrong NU always had good Canadian talent . I would think with Armstrong's celebrity status in Toronto he could be a real asset , hopefully the coaching staff has reached out to him . I've been disappointed in the caliber of players GP has recruited .
