No surprises at all. As expected , MAAC rosters are being gutted of their best players (Noah T. Long, Parker sisters and Javion Mac). The NIL and Portal arrangements are disasters for most mid-major programs . I agree with Suge, as a mid , why even bother to recruit HS players with the high attrition rate after 1 or 2 years. A total complete waste of time and resources at this point.

So far Hockey is the sport least affected by this portal disaster. Maybe a few top players leave the lower programs, but the top programs lose even more to the pros. More often than not those leaving are looking for more playing time and often drop down rather than go up which helps the lesser programs as those players are often only a slight notch below but with playing time can shine. Football and Basketball are being ruined though. Basketball will be decimated by this leaving only about 25-40 schools at most that will continue to reload and reduce the other schools to training grounds. An occasional outlier will get through for one year making some noise in the NCAA tournament but then be pulled apart almost completely as their players move on to the haves. Better to recruit JC players or D2 stars that can step in and play right away rather than develop a player over time and then lose them. The NIL will lure top football players away from the borderline top 25 teams yet those not getting playing time on the top teams may opt into those programs giving them some life. Beyond the top 40-50 there will be less interest in both football and basketball and it would not surprise me to see many schools dropping those sports or setting their expectations to a different level of competition perhaps a new umbrella organization. This will in turn hurt the bigs as total interest in them will wane nationally. Let them exalt in their own little world. As of now winning a NC has some national pride, in the future it may be just regional pride with hardly anyone else caring.

Mailk Edwards(William Penn)--interest from NU

Couple of interesting names that hit the portal today:
Tyler Betram(UAB)-- Our old friend will be looking for his fourth school. Might be time to come home.
Davonte Gaines(Geroge Mason)-- Buffalo kid. Started his college career at Tennessee. Found a home at George Mason. Coaching change led him to explore options for his Grad year.

Hofstra's Aaron Estrada has entered the portal , his next school will be his FOURTH !!! Started at St Peter's , transferred to Oregon , then transferred to Hofstra .......the situation is ridiculous . If nothing else , the NCAA should at least limit the number of times one can transfer .

Isn’t Gray the player a relative of assistant coach Gray? Maybe they move as a pair again.

I agree with Philly’s description of the current state of college basketball. At some point, people are going to turn it off due to the gross disparity between the top 40 schools and the “serfs. “ The rosters of Iona , Niagara , Manhattan, Siena , QU and Fairfield have been gutted of their best players. Just about everything in this country has been turned upside down including college sports .

MAAC Portal:

Add Billips to Siena ‘s list.

Manhattan down to two players on the roster (Hayun and Walden) pending Schreier’s COVID year decision
