AHA ALL STAR TEAMS 2023

Post by jhart »

Despite Veltri being on the ballot for the Player of year nationwide, NU has no one on three teams and rookie of the year.

Jim, the Hobey Baker award allows every team to nominate 3 players so that does not necessarily mean they are the best in their league even. That would be up to 30 from Atlantic Hockey alone, almost double the number selected to the all league teams.

When I reviewed the AHA all-star teams, I was a bit taken back as well by the snub. How can a team advance to the semifinals and not have one player even on the third team?

A significant step forward this season for Niagara Hockey. I didn't realize it had been so long since our last winning season dating back to Burky's tenure.
The Purple Eagles finished the season with a 19-18-3 record, it is the programs first winning season since the 2012-13 season. It is the 14th winning season in program history.

The one player that should have been on one of those teams is Glebs Prohorenkovs on the rookie team. He led the AHC in goals by a freshman in league games. Also he had a team high +10 in the +/- category where the next highest player was +5. Other than that the team was very balanced in a good way, no spectacular standouts but a very large number of above average players. Some of the stats by Niagara players were advanced greatly in out of conference games so that could have come into play in the selections.
