MEN's NIT

Post by jhart »

Hofstra in Round 1 just upset #1 Rutgers in OT 88-86.
Their star, Estrada had fouled out late in regulation and found a way to the W!
I grew up ten minutes from Pride campus.

Yeah. I was pulling for Pride in what turned out to be a very exciting basketball game. Tom Parotta a former assistant at NU under Joe Mihalich is on HC’s coaching staff. He may have been on Jack Armstrong’s staff as well after playing at Fordham .

Hart, you must be a West Hempstead kid.

Even though I was born at Yale , I hope Vandy buries them.

Yes, we all walked to parochial grade school as well at Saint Mary's. Obviously, we were all much smarter than the public school kids ! The only secular school I attended was Northeastern U in Bos for grad school.

Vandy advances to the 2nd round of the NIT hosting Michigan on Saturday.

Hofstra's second round contest will be against either the University of Cincinnati or Virginia Tech. The game will be played on either Saturday, March 11, or Sunday, March 12. I'd love to see the Dutchmen knock off VTech .

The NIT is so hard to predict because you don't know what the mindset of the teams will be . For instance , the teams that were on the NCAA bubble often times are top seeds in the NIT . The snub could be their motivation to prove the NCAA tournament committee wrong , however , most times the top seeded NIT teams seem to underachieve given their disappointment .

Yes it does seem as if many of the Power 5 teams are under achieving due to their disappointment of not being in the NCAA's.

North Texas prevailed last night in the NIT Championship game from Vegas. Last night's attendance figures were not announced, but there were less people in the stands compared to the semifinals on Tuesday. The announced attendance was a paltry 2,931 for the semi's. Vegas doesn't have the same "gravitas" compared to MSG in terms of basketball tradition.

Vegas is not centrally located and has little if any college basketball culture in the area besides UNLV's successes years ago. Next year the NIT is "traveling" to Indy (Hinkle Fieldhouse) which should attract more interest and is more centrally located. I do hope the NIT Committee considers Dayton and MSG as future sites.

The NIT should be at MSG in NYC like God intended.

Actually the NIT has run its' course , there is zero fan interest in the tournament . A change of venue will do nothing to increase attendance and tv ratings . I'd like to see the NCAA tournament expand and include those teams that would normally be in the NIT .
