NCAA Hockey Portal / Impact on NIL

Post by le »

Losing the below players would be significant losses for NU Hockey. Three of their best players man.

Not sure if this belongs on this thread as it is for hockey, but it is for the portal. According to this site: https://gopherpucklive.com/transfer-portal/ Nilsson, Naumovski and Veltri in the portal; presumably as Grad transfers?

Niagara has been as busy as anyone in the portal. Veltri is going to Robert Morris as they resume play next season. Naumovski is going to D1 newcomer Augustana. Jake Sibell as I feared has entered the portal. Could see that coming with the lack of playing time. Now for the pickups: First and foremost they got Jarrett Fiske the AIC goaltender who should start next year. They also picked up 3 players that were looking for more playing time. I believe they may be brothers, forwards Luke (Minn Duluth) and Conner (Alaska) Mylymok and Defenseman Alex Murray from Miami.

Thanks for the update NE:

These two deletions are significant losses for Niagara with Veltri being our top netminder and Naumovski the team's fourth leading scorer. Naumovski moving to a slightly superior league in the CCHA is understandable. Ryan being a Michigan native playing in South Dakota makes sense as well as a new state of art arena at Augustana. Veltri leaving for RMU is perplexing other than the fact he's a native of Pittsburgh, PA.

Fiske AIC's top netminder from Erie, PA will be an instant starter in goal NU. The other 3 additions from Minny Duluth and Miami seem like solid pick ups from teams in one of the better leagues in college hockey (NCHC).

A quick look at NU's new transfers :

FISKE -AIC- GOALIE:

Fiske earned a Second-Team nod and was the AHA Goaltending Champion; the latter is given to the qualifying goalkeeper with the lowest goals against average, as he posted a 1.91 goals against average and .931 save percentage in league play, also the best in the league. In doing so, he became the fourth-consecutive winner of the award from AIC. His overall .923 save percentage is second-best in a season in AIC's Division I era, and his 2.38 goals against average for the campaign is the fifth-best in that span.

ALEX MURRAY- MIAMI - D

• Has appeared in 25 games through two seasons
• Has produced three career points (0-3-3)
• Two-time member of the NCHC Academic All-Conference team

2022-23 HIGHLIGHTS
• Skated in 19 games
• Finished with three points (0-3-3)
• Picked up an assist in victory at No. 19 North Dakota (11/19)
• Posted +2 rating on two different occasions (10/21 and 2/25)
• Blocked a total of seven shots
• Member of the NCHC Academic All-Conference team

Conner Mylymok- Alaska- Forward

Conner had a total of 8 points last year at Alaska. At 6’1 205, he can provide some thump.

Luke Mylymok- Minny Duluth – Forward :

Conner had a total of 8 points last year as well for Minny Duluth.

There are a couple of BC, UNH and Northeastern players in the portal I have seen play that would be good additions for NU.

As NE explained, there is less impact of the portal in college hockey because many top programs lose their best underclassmen to the NHL. More parity, see BU and QU in the Frozen Four. In hoops, BU is in AEast and QU is in the MAAC.

BU moved into the Patriot League for hoops, et al., a number of years ago.

Right, a mental brain fart regarding BU still being a member of AEast. When BU and Northeastern departed greener pastures in the Patriot League and CAA, AEast really took a hit with regards to sports.. UVM has pretty much owned the league in the last decade or so in hoops. It's amazing to think back on the fact that Niagara shared membership with both schools in the old NAC.

Alex Murray will help NU. Fast skater, with hockey IQ. For whatever reason, got in coaches doghouse at Miami and never received a fair shot.Quality guy who will provide speed on the back end and give 110%. The Mylymok boys will add grit and determination. Surprised Schebil is leaving considering Veltri is not returning. My assumption is that the graduating seniors where not offered to return as scholarships are going elsewhere.

Thanks for the update on the Murray since you have first hand intel.

Hey, I noticed Utica has two players in the transfer portal. I'm not aware of their official conversion to D1 status. Did we miss something ?
