Mariner's manager trusted Matt to close with a 3-1 lead in bottom of 9th.
With two outs and two he put on, Matt gave up a two run double before retiring the side with three SO's.
Mariner's took another two run lead and that reliever also blew the save.
In the 12th, Cleveland prevailed.
That's Matt's 2nd BS in the first two weeks of the season.
He can't afford more.

I think Matt is most effective as a bridge to the closer rather than closing a game . With Matt it's never about his stuff ....it's electric , he has to work on his command . He still has a very bright future .

He took a tough loss yesterday with that dumb ghost runner rule in the 10th at The Friendly Confines.

Yeah, even today's NY Post mentioned that after striking out the first batter in bottom of 10th, he was the victim of a soft single that gave the Cubs a
3-2 win and Matt's 1st loss.

Matt got payback last night when he came into the 5th, struck out two, walked one and ended the inning with no runs and 13 pitches.
He was awarded the win to go 1-1 and 4.05 ERA.

Brash picked up his third win (against two loses) yesterday as the Mariners beat the A’s 7-2. His era is now 4.3.

And he got the final two outs in 9th forcing extra innings. After M's got 5 in top of 10th, Brash finished the game.
Not often has he been asked to get five outs!
