It’s Official: Lemoyne to join the NEC

Post by le »

Per the AEast Forum, LeMoyne will upgrade and join NEC in a few weeks. The NEC will then have two schools LC & Stonehill) in D1 transition, with Merrimack finally coming off the probationary period.

This makes sense to replace SFU (NY)

Lemoyne upgrading to D1 makes perfect sense being located in a small market hoops hotbed in CNY (SU). My sense is the current rather dynamic Prez will make this transition a reality. I recall a few years ago, LC flirted with the possibility of joining the MAAC for all sports. I'm not certain if there was a formal app or not. There are rumors of Assumption in Worcester moving up to D1 as well. Would this prompt Saint Mike's and Saint A's as well ? U of New Haven is a distinct possibility for future NEC membership.

Niagara 1981 grad ? If 1980, I don't remember her since I wasn't in the library much my senior year. HA HA HA !
A first-generation college student, LeMura received a B.S. degree summa cum laude from Niagara University with majors in biology and education. In subsequent study at Syracuse University, she received an M.S. in 1983 and a Ph.D. in 1987 in applied physiology.[5]

I met Dr. LeMura at a LeMoyne event a couple months back in Albany and came away very impressed. LeMura, who played hoops at Niagara, is a mover and shaker that gets things done. She’s a spark plug with limitless energy and the LeMoyne alumni love her!

Yeah Mike , I agree. She’s a rather dynamic individual fully capable of pulling off the conversion to D1 sports . One would assume, Lemoyne could easily tap into a segment of the hoops energy in the region due to SU. Obviously, LC’s brand would be enhanced by the upgrade as well as name recognition.

I think at one time they were in the MAAC for baseball only.

They were in the MAAC for D1 baseball for close to a decade. LC did explore the possibility of moving up to D1 for all sports during the same time frame but decided against transition.
The Dolphins’ Division I fate had been uncertain since the close of the 2007 season, when they were ousted from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference by new bylaws requiring all programs at MAAC schools to compete at the Division I level. The move upset players, coaches and alumni, especially since the team won a conference-best eight MAAC championships and had five NCAA Tournament appearances.
