Lacrosse team comeback falls short in MAAC tournament.

Post by NewEnglander »

The Niagara women take on Mt St Mary's Sunday at Noon and should be prohibitive favorites in the #3 vs. #6 game. If they win, they will play #2 Siena next week with the winner to play in the championship game for an NCAA bid. Mt St Mary's snuck in for the 6th seed despite a 4-12 record because 3 of those wins were in league and they won a tie breaker while being #100 RPI, last in the league. Niagara is 47th RPI while Siena is 42nd. #1 seed Fairfield is 32nd while the 4th seed Quinnipiac is 58th. This NCAA bid is certainly not out of grasp.

This team is certainly capable enough, after beating Oregon, Delaware, Binghamton, and the #1, 2, and 4 seeds in this year’s tournament. Time to avenge their early season L to MSM today. Go Eagles!

1ST Team ALL MAAC Branjecki had 5 goals and Crane 3 as NU scored 6 goals in final frame v Mt St Mary's 3.
Let's beat Siena and then FFD assuming they with their semi.
A shame FFD #1 seed is host but that's how it works.
I have two sons that in their senior HS years won State LAX Championships, the only years their school ever accomplished that.
Please excuse my embodiment.

Today's the day. First semifinal is Quinnipiac at Fairfield at noon. The Niagara-Siena game follows at 3. The championship is Sunday at noon. All games are on ESPN+. NU has 6 losses this year but the last 4 were only by 1 goal. They have been 7-4 (those one goal losses including to #14 Marquette) since their 17-5 loss to now #5 and undefeated Denver.

Fairfield on to the championship game 14-7 over Quinnipiac. Niagara in a tight game now leading 6-5 with 5:51 left in the 2nd quarter.

Stunningly bad reversal. Siena scores 6 straight in the 3rd to take a 12-7 lead.

Comeback falls short. They closed the gap to 2 with just under 12 minutes left but could not score again. A very late Siena goal with 11 seconds left sealed a 13-10 win for Siena. Very fine season for the Niagara women.

Kind of surprised that there were no responses to this game as it was perhaps one of Niagara's best chances at an autobid to any NCAA tournament. They had beaten the #1 seed at their field just a short time ago so had they won the semifinal the championship would have been a tossup.
