Congrats to Coach Casey! The crazy MAAC !

Leadership Transition for Fairfield Men’s Basketball
Chris Casey to Serve as Interim Head Coach for 2023-24 Season

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 16, 2023) — Fairfield University announced today that Jay Young, the University's Head Men's Basketball Coach, has stepped down from his position and will be leaving the University. We would like to thank Coach Young for his dedication and contributions to Fairfield during his four seasons with the Stags. During his tenure, Coach Young led the Stags to a 50-73 record, which included an appearance in the 2021 MAAC Championship game. We wish Coach Young much success in his future endeavors.

Chris Casey, who has served as an Assistant Men's Basketball coach for Fairfield over the past four seasons, will assume the role of Interim Head Coach effective immediately. Coach Casey's strong knowledge of the game, commitment to player development, previous head coaching experience and passion for the Fairfield University Men's Basketball program will provide a strong foundation for him to lead the Stags for the 2023-24 season. Casey previously served as the Head Coach at Niagara University, LIU Post and Rutgers-Newark.

I'm sure there's a story behind the resignation . Coaches generally don't resign weeks before the start of season unless it's health related or for personal reasons , neither of those were mentioned in Fairfield's news release .

His record at NU was 64-129. It was a pretty grim time. Lack of recruiting competitive D1 players comes to mind. Wasn't it also a lack of hard nose defense that was a problem?

All of the above for Casey. Add no personality.
He was in over his head as a Division 1 coach.
Actually I feel bad for the Fairfield fans. They build a spectacular arena on campus but the BBall program continues to wallow in bad news.

Burnerball.com:

"Multiple sources confirmed the resignation is the result of an investigation into inappropriate behavior. The allegations stemmed from an incident that occurred on the school’s recent foreign tour to Costa Rica. Stags assistant coach Bryan Dougher was also removed from the school’s website this morning, but there are no official statements from the school regarding his dismissal."

Interesting stuff. Never been to Costa Rica but lived in Panama for a while (2 1/2 yrs). The tropics are beautiful and the booze can flow freely when you're away from your home in the Northeast on "vacation". Plenty of temptation if you put yourself in that place. Being a non-citizen can put you at a disadvantage in "dicey" situations involving locals. Our imaginations may run amuck, but we may never know the whole story.

Looks like Casey and Fairfield lost another assistant coach and player this week. Coach James Johns and his son James Jones Jr are leaving the program. Johns Jr. a 6’6” soph averaged about 3 pts per game last year has entered the transfer portal and his dad left, likely because of the Costa Rica scandal.

Geez , such poor judgement exercised by Fairfield coaching staff which has to be embarrassing for the school.
