NU returns home to host Air Force

AFA (3-5) travels to Dwyer this weekend for two games against Niagara (1-3-1) . The Falcons have wins against Michigan State, Lindenwood and Alaska-Anchorage.

Niagara Notes

•Last weekend the Purple Eagles hit the road to face Sacred Heart for their first road Atlantic Hockey series of the season. The Purple Eagles secured two points on Friday with an overtime win. Niagara trailed three times in the game and answered each time. Less than two minutes after the opening goal by Sacred Heart, Christian Gorscak scored to tie the game at one. After Sacred Heart’s second goal, Alex Murray was the beneficiary of a beautiful deke and pass from Lars Rodne, for Murray it was his first career goal. After 40 minutes, Niagara trailed 3-2, just 28 seconds into the third period, Jaedon Leslie tied the game at three as Luke Mylymok picked up his first point of the season with an assist. While on the power play in overtime, Jay Ahearn scored with Glebs Prohorenkovs and Carter Randklev picking up assists.
•On Saturday the Purple Eagles fell 4-1 while Sacred Heart scored two empty
netters to close the game. Niagara outshot the Pioneers 38-15 in the game. Lars Rodne scored the lone goal for the Purple Eagles with Ahearn and Mysak picking up assists.
•Niagara outshot the Pioneers 60-39 in the two games while also winning 56.2 percent of the faceoffs.
•The Purple Eagles also scored their first two power play goals of the season against Sacred Heart.

ALL-TIME VS AIR FORCE
•The Purple Eagles are 42-36-8 all-time against Air Force, Niagara is 18-11-7 at home against the Falcons.
•The teams last met last season for a pair of games in Colorado with the teams splitting the weekend series. Niagara fell 6-3 in the first game while winning the second game 2-1. Both Lars Rodne and Josef Mysak had two points on a goal and an assist in the two games while Olivier Gauthier, Noah Carlin, Shane Ott, and Christian Gorscak were among Purple Eagles who tallied points. Ryan Ouellette played two periods making 17 saves on 20 shots against Air Force.
•Niagara has not hosted the Falcons since the 2021-22 season when Niagara picked up four points with a regulation win and a shootout win.

WHERE THEY RANK
•Josef Mysak is eighth in Atlantic Hockey among defensemen in career points ashe has 35 points in his three year career.
•Carter Randklev is tied for ninth among AHA played in goals with 24 in his career.
•Glebs Prohorenkovs is fourth among active players in shooting percentage as he has scored 12 goals on just 63 shots in his carer. He is also eighth in faceoff wins per game in his career with 8.29. He is eighth in the AHA this season in faceoff wins per game this season.
•Graduate Student Jaedon Leslie won an AHA high 21 faceoffs against Mercyhurst. He ranks third in faceoff wins per game with 13.00 and third in total faceoff wins.

NU up 2-1 early 3rd period. Goals by Ahearn and Gauthier; Ouellette in goal for NU.

Into OT again , tied 2-2. Cmon man , win the opening game on home ice. Hometown fans need to experience a winning program at this level(AHA).

AFA wins in OT. NU gets 1 point for a tie in regulation.

Well. It’s a must win tomorrow night if this team expects the fans to show up during the next home stand. Only 650 in the stands tonight.

Maybe Fiskie in goal tonight ? I dunno...We are not scoring many goals on home ice either.

Niagara Notes

· Niagara outshot the Falcons 29-24 in the game with six Niagara shots coming on the power play. Niagara limited Air Force to just 15 shots at even strength.

· Ryan Ouellette started in net and made 21 saves in his fifth game of the season.

· Ahearn extended his point streak to four games with a goal, he has six points in six games this season and 23 career points in 23 career games.

· Randklev now has a point in four of six games this season.

· Gauthier scored his first goal of the season and his 13th goal of his career.

· Jaedon Leslie's success in the faceoff circle continued as he went 11-4 in the dot, he is 76-58 in the dot this season.

· Niagara has now scored three power play goals in the last three games.

· As a team, the Purple Eagles blocked 14 shots, Gauthier had a team high three blocks while Ahearn, Josef Mysak, Ethan Lund, and David Posma each had two blocks.

Some interesting data.
Ex NU goalie, Chad Veltri now playing for RMU has a goal against average of 2.24 with a save percentage of 94%.

In football today, #25 AFA a 17 point favorite a t home v Army, lost 23-3.
That's why we play the games!
Let's get a W tonight v AFA and secure for them a bad day!
