Tru:
In defense of Lammers after a slow start at Niagara, the team demonstrated significant progress last season finishing at 19-18-3 along with an appearance in the AHA semi-finals. The quality of the venue does matter even in the AHA. AIC's former venue was a community rink with literally no heat, thus they were noncompetitive on the ice. Qpac played at a community rink in Hamden, CT and enjoyed similar success. Obviously when both of these schools upgraded to the TD Bank Center and Mass Mutual Arena in Springfield, both programs became very competitive in their leagues. Ditto SHU and Bentley.

I'm very disappointed to the start of this season. Frankly it looks like more of the same.
NU should be a premier MIH school. Period.
They need to bring on a major sponsor / patron / coach to turn it around. Right now, the facility is good enough for the product that is in it. If you win games > people will come > then the facility will be improved.
Right now - we are a mediocre product in a low-tier conference.

Guys: I understand your frustrations, coaching changes just don’t occur that quickly in college hockey especially at
this level due to financial constraints . With enrollments declining nationwide starting in 2025, AHA schools will be in no position to “eat “ long-term coaches contracts. Let’s at least give Jason this year to elevate the program before beating everybody up associated with the team. Clearly , we need to protect home ice which has been an issue in recent years.
Yeah, why not rename the arena the Tim Horton Center or the M&T Bank Center to attract sponsor funds etc. The rink will still be the “Dwyer Rink. “. Or the M&T Bank/ Dwyer Center.
I agree though, this sluggish start to the season is very similar to previous years. NU is struggling to find a starting netminder which I find alarming since Veltri and Sibbel are excelling at Romo and Saint Thomas.

I agree that schools like NU cannot buyout contracts , with that said , contract extension should be granted judiciously and given based on merit . I like Lammers , however the numbers don't lie . He's never even had a winning season in conference play , a conference that is the weakest in DI . I have a hard time believing that most of the rosters in the AHA are head and shoulders better than NU's . If the administration doesn't care by handing out contract extensions without merit , then it's only natural that disinterest and apathy prevails among students and fans . Fan support isn't a given , it has to be earned . Hopefully things can turn around since it's still early in the season .
