Looks like all #1 seeds will receive auto bids. March Madness will be postponed until further notice.

Scary time!

I believe the move is intended to give professors extra time to get materials ready for the switch to online courses.

Btw, FF takes down Siena. Ensor backed himself into a corner. If they proceed with the NCAA, can you give Siena the autobid after they lost?

I thought Siena was playing the QU-Monmouth winner in the semis?

Le, you are correct. It might have been the women's score. Doesn't matter. Rest of the tourney is canceled. Ensor canceled all spring sports as well.

Duke and Kansas have suspended all athletic activities. They have withdrawn from the NCAA tourney altogether.

It’s really amazing how many institutions THEY now control to prompt such a panic stricken response. Concerns are warranted, but not this degree of hype and overkill. Sorry , I don’t agree with all of this .There will be no sports for months so really I need to get this off my sagging chest.

Thanks Mike. What are the issues of playing infront of empty seats ? Return travel for the student athletes and coaches ? A lot of people have purchased airlines tickets , hotel rooms etc for the league tourneys and March Madness. Sadly , the show will not go on.

It's about stopping the spread. Coronavirus can lay dormant for something like 2 weeks (don't quote me on the time). Look at the Utah Jazz as the exact scenario everyone else is trying to avoid. One player contracted it, got sick, and by the time they knew it was coronavirus, he had been in contact with teammates and coaches and staff. Another teammate has since tested positive.

One player from Rider might be carrying it and not showing symptoms. He could pass it to a Niagara player, that player could get back on campus and it could spread quick. It's probably already happened, but there's no sense not at least trying to prevent something like that from happening.

I’m hardly an expert in the field but insurance might be driving some of the decisions. Many special events carry insurance in the event if it has to be cancelled. For example, you might carry insurance if an event is rained out, or the event venue is unable to operate for some reason, or an emergency exists etc. Cancelling an event may trigger a different set of circumstances than limiting attendance. Like I said, i’m hardly an expect, just someone who has acquired special event insurance on a couple of occasions.

The real good news is Niagara did something very few college basketball teams can say they did...win the last game of their season! Normally only four teams can say they did it.
